Hair transplant is the most effective and demanded hair restoration treatment of today. Hair transplant techniques are constantly improving to achieve more and more successful results. Here are the main techniques used for hair transplant treatments.

FUT hair transplant

FUT technique is one of the most well-known hair transplant techniques; it is a traditional technique which is not as commonly performed as the earlier years.

FUT hair transplant is also referred as “strip technique”; the reason for that is the technique is performed by extracting a skin strip from the back of the head to harvest required hair follicles. Hair follicles on this skin strip are than planted in to the hair loss area with suitable tools.

The reason of this technique’s decreasing popularity is mainly the invasiveness; the skin extraction process comes with the needs of sutures and a prominent and permanent scar at the back of the head which is clearly visible especially when the hair is styled short. Recovery process of FUT is longer and more demanding comparing to other techniques because the scar tissue needs adequate time and attention to heal properly.

On the other hand, FUT technique can give better results than other techniques for some cases of severe hair loss which have a large hair loss area and a limited donor area. The time that harvested hair follicles spend outside of the body is the minimum in this technique; therefore, the damage risk is also minimal and the survival rate of the follicles are higher.

FUE hair transplant

FUE technique is the new popular after FUT technique; it offers a much more advantageous process than FUT.

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) procedure starts by collecting the follicles one by one from the donor area with proper tools. The recipient hair loss area is prepared by opening up micro canals and the follicles are transplanted into those canals. Throughout the procedure, there is no skin removal or use of stitches; FUE is a less invasive technique than FUT and the only scarring left afterwards is the little wounds in the places where follicles are harvested and transplanted. These little wounds disappear within a few days.

Recovery after FUE is quite smooth; patients are able to get back to their daily routines in a day without feeling any pain and discomfort. The scar-free feature and comfortable recovery of FUE allows patients to have a discreet procedure.

DHI method

DHI can be accepted as a technique which derived from FUE; the basic principles of FUE operation remain the same in this technique. What makes the DHI method special is the Choi implanter pen. With Choi implanter pen, harvesting and implanting processes are combined together; harvested follicles are transplanted in to the hair loss area without a need to open canals in the area beforehand. The follicles are inserted to the area with the help of the implanter pen right after they are collected from the donor area; therefore, the time they spend outside of the body is very short and the damage risk is minimum. Bleeding is reduced during and after the operation; the recovery is very smooth and painless. The success rate is quite high.
