Hair transplant’s popularity is increasing day by day. Here are the details about hair transplant and its stages for those who are interested in the treatment.

How should a successful hair transplant process start?

Undoubtedly, the first step of a successful hair transplant journey should be a detailed consultation. Hair transplant is an operation which should be planned individually to achieve the most successful results. There are multiple things to plan about the operation; how should be the hairline that fits the face most? How is the desired density? How many grafts should be transplanted to achieve the best results? Where is the most suitable donor area with the most resistant hair follicles? Which hair transplant technique is the most suitable one for the individual condition of the patient? These questions should be replied in the consultation. Patient’s medical history and hair loss condition should be assessed closely.

Hair transplant techniques

Most of the hair transplant treatments are performed with FUE hair transplant technique today. FUE is more advantageous and advanced in many terms over other techniques and can treat variety of hair loss conditions with a high success rate.

FUE hair transplant is performed in 3 main steps. First step is the harvesting of the follicles from the selected donor area which is usually the back of the head due to the resistance of the follicles there. Second step is opening up channels in the recipient hair loss area; this step is performed by micro tools and not by removing any skin. The last step is transplanting the harvested follicles into the recipient area in accordance to the hair line and density design made beforehand. The area is covered with dressings.

FUE technique is performed under local anesthesia, therefore it is a very painless procedure. There are some variations of FUE technique; these variations can benefit from different type of tools or different materials of those tools and the progression may be slightly different; however, the basic steps remains the same. Sapphire, DHI and Micro FUE techniques can be accepted as some examples of variations of FUE.

Hair transplant can also be performed by using FUT technique; FUT is a more traditional technique which is not as commonly preferred as FUE today, due to certain disadvantages. But then again it can give more successful results in certain hair loss conditions. FUT is performed by taking out a skin strip from the back of the head to harvest the follicles and transplanting them to the recipient area; in this technique, time the follicles spend outside of the body is relatively shorter and therefore the survival rate of them is a little higher. However, FUT technique leaves a permanent linear scar in the place where the skin strip is taken; this causes an unpleasant appearance especially when the hair is styled short.
