Aesthetically, men unsatisfied with the shape and density of their moustaches often experience this problem in psychological dimensions. The ideal moustache density and shape are obtained with moustache transplantation in such aesthetic issues. Now let’s see what moustache transplantation is, how moustache transplantation is done and what methods are applied.

What is Mustache Transplantation?

The FUE method, preferred in hair and beard transplantation, is also selected for moustache transplantation. Definitive treatment is a surgical procedure performed in the upper lip area, and it adds a lot to those who have any deficiency in their moustache in terms of appearance and self-confidence.

Every man desires to have symmetrical, smooth and sufficient moustaches, which change his external vision considerably. In addition to men who like to live with a beard and moustache, some want to style by growing a beard and moustache periodically. Those who do not have the desired shape and density moustache can cause serious trouble.

The donor area is the nape area where permanent hair follicles are, as in hair transplantation. The hair follicles taken from the nape area are taken by the FUE method and prepared for use in the problematic moustache area. The hair follicles collected with the FUE technique are transferred to the moustache area with sparse or no hair.

How is a Mustache Transplant Done?

Hair follicles to be transplanted instead of moustaches are taken from the neck, as in baldness treatment. The scalp strip is cut out above the neck and sliced into individual hair follicles. Then, hair follicles are transplanted to the areas with moustache deficiency. The transplanted hair follicles retain their previous characteristics in the moustache area, and the hairs continue to grow.

It is essential to inform the doctor of skin conditions or hormonal disturbances.

The number of hair follicles to be transferred to the moustache area determines the operation time. The FUE moustache transplantation method is preferred with the most successful results. It is a procedure performed under local anaesthesia and may take 3-5 hours on average. The hair follicles taken are added to that person’s area with the help of tools that can transplant up to 0.7 mm.

The person who wants a moustache transplant determines the limits and frequency of transplantation. While 1,000 hair follicles are required for a patient with no moustache, this number is much lower in sparse or burn scars. The number increases for those who want more than 1,000 hair roots and prefer a denser moustache.

After the hair transplant, the transplanted area is left open, and a bandage is applied to the donor area for three days. During this period, the transplanted area is not washed for three days.

The recovery process after transplantation takes about ten days. In this process, hair follicles are crusted. This crusting begins to shed gradually with the first washing on the 3rd day, and the hair follicles show improvement.

Hair growing after a moustache transplant can be shortened with scissors after 15 days.

There may be shock loss 2-3 weeks after transplantation. Although it is not seen in everyone, in the middle of the fourth month after the shock shedding, the moustaches grow again and in the ordinary course of growth.

Six months after the moustache transplant, the transplanted roots begin to hold in place. As a result, it continues to elongate in the normal cycle.
