Hair transplant operations are to restore lost hair and have an aesthetic look, but the idea of a scar caused by the procedure always intimidates the people who think about having it. Although usually, the results are worth even for scarring, many people are giving up on the operation because of it.

The scarring issue after a hair transplant should be acknowledged with its details since not every technique leaves the same level of scar. Usually, the scar tissue patients expect is linear and extends from one side to another at the back of the head; however, this is not the case for all hair transplant techniques.

Which hair transplant method leaves a minor scar?

The techniques and technologies for hair transplant operations are developed very much today, so the scarring issue is relatively minimized. Still, hair transplant scar is the reality of the old popular technique FUT.

FUT technique is performed by extracting a hairy skin strip from the back of the head and collecting the hair follicles from that strip for transplantation to the hair loss area; the technique is invasive since removing the skin strip requires stitches afterwards. The place where the linear strip is removed remains permanent scar tissue after the operation.

The scarring issue is different for the newer technique of FUE. The FUE technique is done by collecting the hair follicles one by one from the donor area- usually the back of head-via micro tools and transplanting them to the recipient area. The procedure involves no stitches or skin removal; therefore, it does not pose a severe scar possibility. The maximum scarring a patient may experience after FUE would be little white dot-shaped scars in the donor area, where the follicles are harvested. These little dots are only visible if the hair is styled very short, so the technique is often accepted as leaving no scar and is more suitable for those hesitant about the scarring issue.

How to conceal a hair transplant scar?

There are multiple solutions if you have had a hair transplant and are uncomfortable with the remaining scar. A professional consultation with a specialist is essential to find out the best option among those for your condition.

If you suffer from a FUT scar, one option to get rid of that linear scar is to get an FUE hair transplant into that area; the new follicles will cover the spot. But then again, the scar tissue should be scrutinized before the operation since sometimes it may not be suitable for receiving new strands.

FUT scar can also be treated with a scar revision operation; in this operation, the scar tissue is surgically removed using better medical techniques, and the new scar tissue is much less visible.

Laser treatments are also available for scar treatments; the laser is helpful to stimulate the skin and collagen production and thus reduces the scar tissue.

Just like hair transplant procedures, hair transplant scar treatments should also be planned very carefully; whichever is suitable for your case, ensure that all your necessary tests and examinations are done delicately.
